Masks are required for sporting event spectators

Santa Clara County has said that all attendees at indoor events, including athletics, must wear masks. The county made masks optional outdoors.  It was noted that a school or district could be more restrictive.  SCUSD has chosen to be more restrictive, particularly in relation to outdoor sports and other activities.

OUTDOOR SPORTS:  To stay consistent with what the high school is doing, student-athletes who are actively participating in outdoor athletics are not required to wear a mask, although it is recommended and encouraged.

However, all other athletes on the bench, coaches, spectators and staff must have their mask on at all times, indoors or outdoors.

There is a temporary exemption for someone who is actively eating or drinking.

Coaches must wear masks at all times when with students.

INDOOR SPORTS: masks are already mandatory all times indoors, including team meetings, in the locker room, at practice, and during games. The SCVAL Board of Managers decided that if a spectator refuses to wear a mask, the game will stop and will not resume until the spectator has either put on their mask or left.  The eating exemption does not apply inside our gym as we do not allow food or drinks except for water in the gym.

These are SCUSD-level decisions.  We do not have the ability to alter this at the site level.  As policy updates occur,  we will update this space.
