Course Objective:               

As we implement the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core, we focus on inquiry and research to investigate topics and to analyze, integrate, and present information. Our essential standards include developing literacy in both Science and Technology.

Students, district wide, will use the same format to present inquiry based lessons that include a Claim supported by Evidence and summarized with a Reason (CER). Students will learn through exploration and demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and proficiency through learning activities, performance tasks, class discussions and assessments.  

Course Outline:  

Unit 1: Change Over Time  

Unit 2: Energy and Motion  

Unit 3: Understanding Waves     

Unit 4: Humans and Their Place in the Universe

      We suggest students have the following supplies:

  • Paper or a notebook
  • Pencils
  • Pens (black or blue)
  • Pencil Sharpener
  • Colored Pencils (8 colors)
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • Ruler 

Students who are unable to provide these supplies, please contact our office and we will provide these for you.  SCUSD's Family Resource Center also has supplies for families in need.  Please see the Family Resource Center webpage for more information.

Course Procedures  and Expectations:

  • Class instruction will consist of whole class lessons, discussions, group and partner work, and independent work.

  • Be on time and prepared for class 

  • Participate and contribute to the conversation                   

  • Use proper language when writing and speaking

  • Collaborate with others participating fully in group activities

  • Be on task the whole period
