2017-2018 Clubs & Activities

Peterson offers students many clubs and activities.  Some meet during the school day; most clubs meet after school  This list is updated annually as each club must be approved by the ASB.  

After school clubs that regularly meet on Thursdays are cancelled on Early Out Thursdays (Sept. 7, Oct. 5, Nov. 2, Dec. 7, Jan. 11, Feb. 1, Mar. 1, Apr. 5, May 24).

  • Backgammon Club
    • Learn and play backgammon.  The club will hold mini-tournaments.  The club will meet the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Fridays after school from 2:45pm - 3:30pm in Mr. Funcheon's room G-6.  For more information, contact Mr. Funcheon at 408-423-2922 or
  • Board Games Club
    • Are you a fan of board games?  What about puzzles, or just challenging your knowledge?  Would you like to know or learn how to solve the Rubik's Cube?  If any of these questions were answered with a "yes", then Board Games Club is the place for you.  We have a variety of games from Scrabble to Monopoly to Mastermind along with solving the Rubik's Cube.  The club will meet the first (1st) and third (3rd) Fridays after school, 2:35pm - 3:30pm in Ms. King's room G-8.  For more information, contact Ms. King at 408-423-2952 or
  • Environmental Society
    • The Environmental Society works to reduce trash at Peterson and in our community.  The Environmental Society meets after school on Tuesdays, and has both community clean-up and trash clean-up activities.  Reduce, Recycle, Re-use are some of the components in this environmental awareness club.  Contact Mr. Namba at 408-423-2941 or email for more information.
  • Gay-Straight Alliance - "GSA"
    • GSA is a student-run club that brings together LGBTQI+ and straight students to support each other, provide a safe place to socialize, and learn from each other.  Peterson's GSA is open to everyone, no matter what sexual orientation or gender (this includes heterosexual students).  GSA meets monthly on Tuesdays after school from 2:45pm - 3:45pm in Mr. Jolliff's room E-1.  Listen for meeting announcements.  For more information, contact Mr. Jolliff at 408-423-2859 or email
  • Marine Biology Club
    • Do you enjoy the physical and life forms found in the ocean?  Are you interested in a trip to Catalina Island?  If you do, the Marine Biology Club may be the club for you!   The club is open to all 7th and 8th grade students who would like to travel to Catalina Island in October (this is not a school-sponsored field trip).  More information about the field trip will be provided at the first meeting.  This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy travel and the outdoors.  Contact Mrs. Robbins for more information ( or 408-423-2940).
